1. Green sea turtles
The stars of the show. Turtles graze calmly around Isla Tortuga — float still and they'll simply keep eating a few meters below you.
2. Whitetip reef sharks
Elegant, shy and completely harmless to snorkelers. You'll usually see them cruising the rocky channels or resting on the sand.
3. Spotted eagle rays

4. Moorish idols
The unmistakable banner of the Pacific reef — black, white and gold, trailing that long dorsal streamer between the coral heads.
5. Porcupinefish
Big eyes, permanent smile. Look for them hovering between coral heads — our guides know their favorite hideouts.
6. Scarlet macaws

7. Sergeant majors & the reef crowd
Yellow-striped sergeant majors, parrotfish, angelfish, damselfish — 800+ fish species live in the park, and the shallows are packed with them.
8. Sea stars & urchins
Slow down over the sand between reefs and a miniature world appears — spiny sea stars, urchins and hermit crabs going about their day.
9. Dolphins
Spotted and spinner dolphins often ride the bow wave during the crossing. Never staged, never fed — just curiosity. More: The Dolphins of Coiba.
10. Humpback whales (June–October)
In season, 2,000+ humpbacks migrate from Antarctica to these warm waters to give birth. Dedicated boats run daily: Whale Watching Tour from $650/boat.
